Bruno Spengler takes final pole position

Hockenheim/Germany, October 19th, 2013 - Last year's champion really set an exclamation mark in the final DTM qualifying of the season in Hockenheim this afternoon. The BMW driver took the 16th pole position of his DTM career and will start Sunday's race right from the front. His brand colleagues Dirk Werner, Andy Priaulx and Timo Glock are right behind him in positions two to four. Miguel Molina came in fifth as the best Audi driver.

Mike Rockenfeller (Audi) who already became DTM champion three weeks ago in Zandvoort/Netherlands, couldn't get further than 9th position. BMW driver Augusto Farfus, who is second in the overall ranking, will start next to him from 10th position. The qualifying was a dissappointing affair for Mercedes-Benz. Rober Wickens, who came in 13th, is the best driver for the Stuttgart-based manufacturer. However, since rain has been forecast for Sunday, a lot of changes in position are still likely during the race.

Hankook's DTM race engineer Christophe Stucki: "It wasn't easy for the teams to adapt to the changing conditions. During the free practice session in the morning the temperature of the racetrack was 11 degrees and 15 degrees at the end. In the qualifying, however, it was considerably warmer with 23 degrees. The air pressure of the tyres had to be adapted perfectly for the Ventus Race to be able to deliver its full potential."

Bruno Spengler (BMW): "I am totally happy about my pole position, my team performed superbly. The Hankook tyres worked just great and were consistently fast in all four stints. I had perfect trip practically right from the start and was able to rely completely on the tyres during the whole qualifying session."

Dirk Werner (BMW): "This morning the Hankook tyres worked very well in the cold and also in the afternoon when it got warmer. However, you needed to adapt the tyre pressure as well as the suspension settings, because the car's balance changes as the track temperature changes. The engineers managed this very well allowing me to put down consistently good lap times."

Miguel Molina (Audi): "The conditions changed slightly from very cool in the morning during the free training to the qualifying in the warm afternoon. But I had a superb car and together the good Hankook tyres it turned out to be a great combination. I'm the best Audi pilot and will see how many laps I can do on the Hankook option tyres tomorrow."
