Hankook Tire triumphs with third place finish in British Rally

Hankook Tire is enjoying a banner year on the motors racing circuit, setting the best records in prestigious international auto racing championships.
Hankook Tire (www.hankooktire.com, CEO Cho Choong-hwan) sponsored ‘SJR Hankook’ grabbed an impressive third place overall among 43 teams that took part in the first round of the ‘Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championships’ held in Great Britain on April 14.
Established in 1900, the British Rally Championship (BRC) is the oldest rally competition in the world and is the most esteemed national auto rally competition as well as being the biggest rally held in Britain.
1996 British Rally Champion Gwyndaf Evans popped the champagne on the podium with third place finish. He drove Hankook shod Mitsubishi Evo 9. Up and coming racer and Evans’ teammate Stuart Jones placed ninth, playing a role in the SJR Hankook’s third place overall finish.
Gwyndaf Evans said “The performance of the Hankook Tires that were used for the first time this year in the BRC event was better than expected” and added “first place would have been possible if not for the 40 second penalty for changing the gear box.”
Fierce competition was expected as renowned drivers who participated in the WRC (World Rally Championship), seven former BRC champions as well as 2003 PWRC (Production World Rally Championship) winner Martin Rowe took part in the race.
Ryan Champion in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 captured first place while Mark Higgins in the Subaru Impreza N 12 took second place. Most notably, participants’ interest was piqued by the fact that all the tires of top ten finishes were either Pirellis or Hankook Tires.
With this event to start, the British Rally Championship will consist of a total of six competitions to November, three on unpaved and three on paved roads. In particular, the sixth and final round will be the World Rally Championship (WRC). The BRC moves onto asphalt for the second round of the series to be held on the 7th of July at Kelso, south of Edinburgh.
Meanwhile, at the third round of the Spain Tarmac Rally Championship that took place in Noya, northern Spain on the 23rd of April, Hankook Tire sponsored Pedro Burgo placed first overall above 114 participating teams. Pedro Burgo said “I was extremely satisfied with the performance of Hankook tires” and added “Other competitors who placed second and third came to me to say that they were impressed with my first place finish with tires that were not Michelin or Bridgestone.”
Hankook Tire sponsored Hankook Endless Porsche Team also scored a podium appearance as a result of finishing third in the Super GT race held in Japan on April 1st, a first for a Korean tire manufacturer. As such, Hankook Tire is setting the best records yet since entry into motorsports.
