Hankook Tire (www.hankooktire.com), the seventh-largest and one of the fastest growing tire manufacturers in the world, has announced it will be taking part in Tokyo Auto Salon, the world’s largest automotive component and turning exhibition, to be held at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo during January 9~11. Hankook Tire will showcase three new products and hold a signing ceremony marking the company’s designation as the official tire supplier for the prestigious Japan Formula 3 (F3). The exhibition is expected to draw much attention from the automotive industry, racing enthusiasts and general consumers.

The Hankook Tire booth at Tokyo Auto Salon 2009 will be divided into four zones: Racing/Competition Zone, Luxury High-End Zone, Eco Zone, and High Performance Zone. On display will be a wide range of products featuring Hankook Tire’s superior technology and innovative tires fitted on tuning cars. During the exhibition, three cutting edge products will be unveiled for the first time in the competitive Japanese tire market: enfren, Ventus V12 evo, and Ventus TD (Ventus TD; Track Day).
enfren is an environmentally-friendly tire that boasts greater fuel efficiency compared to regular tires and a marked reduction in carbon dioxide emission. The tire was warmly received by Korean consumers after its domestic release in June 2008. It will soon be launched in the Japanese market. enfren was recently certified under Japan’s Green Purchasing Law which verified its status as an eco-friendly tire.
Featuring exceptional steering stability and braking performance, Ventus V12 evo represents a new concept in ultra high performance tires for high speed driving. Ventus TD (Track Day) is designed for amateur racers and its performance has been verified by podium finishes in various competitions and outstanding test results. The two products have already garnered high marks from Korean race car fans.
Also scheduled to take place during Tokyo Auto Salon, specifically January 9, is the signing ceremony and press conference related to Hankook Tire’s designation as official sponsor of the prestigious Japan Formula 3 (F3). Hankook Tire has been named official tire supplier for the All Japan F3 Championship for two years starting in 2009. This is meaningful in that a Korean company has been chosen as official sponsor of a major motorsports event in Japan. For many years, Japan F3 sponsorship had been monopolized by Japanese companies. Hankook Tire’s sponsor designation attests to the high quality of its products and its experience as the official tire supplier for F3 events in Germany and Italy.
Hankook Tire managing director in charge of branding Kim Se-heon, who is also overseeing activities related to Tokyo Auto Salon 2009, said, “We will showcase new products whose superb quality has been verified through prominent competitions and performance tests. We will also hold a press conference on our selection as official sponsor of Japan F3. Our intent is to promote Hankook Tire’s outstanding technology to industry experts as well as general consumers.”
Launched in 1983, Tokyo Auto Salon is the world’s largest automotive component and turning exhibition and serves as a venue for showcasing innovative products. Hankook Tire started displaying its technologically advanced tires at the event in 2003. This year marks its 7th appearance. About 350 companies including Toyota, Nissan and Honda will be unveiling their products at Tokyo Auto Salon 2009. Some 250,000 visitors are expected to flock to the event including car tuning enthusiasts.
Particularly noteworthy is that the KTR Team is set to attend this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon in relation to the 2009 Super GT. Visitors will get a chance to learn about Hankook Tire’s showing at motorsports events in Japan, the Z221 development process, various official tests and test ride results via a talk show format.
※ About Japan Formula 3
Japan Formula 3 is the only event in Asia that awards the FIA super license, which is a prerequisite to competing in Formula 1. Among the tens of F3 events worldwide, only four competitions (i.e., British F3, Italian F3, Japan F3, Euro Series F3) award the super license to the season winner. Japan Formula 3 is an international competition recognized around the world, with Japanese automakers directly participating as car and technical support teams. It is the only event in Japan where the FIA international standard is applied. A total of 16 teams will compete in 16 rounds from April to September. The final race will be held in Macau in November.
