Hankook Tire Reveals its Innovative 360-degree Rotating “Ball Pin Tire” in Connection with “The Next Driving Lab” Campaign

September 22, 2015 (Seoul, Korea) – Hankook Tire today unveiled its official video for the company’s ongoing The Next Driving Lab campaign, showcasing its new 360-degree rotating Ball Pin Tire. With the 3rd project from Hankook Tire’s The Next Driving Lab, the company aims to use the most advanced technology to deliver a futuristic driving experience as well as the company’s authentic challenge spirit. Hankook Tire’s The Next Driving Lab campaign began in 2013 and is continued to highlight the company’s longstanding commitment to progressive, forward-thinking innovation.
Ball Pin Tire is a unique future-oriented tire, which is capable of moving in a full 360-degree circle. The video depicts the incredible range of motion made possible by the Ball Pin Tire, from 360-degree spins, right angle turns and zigzag driving.
To help the Ball Pin Tire achieve the full potential of its futuristic technology, Hankook Tire installs an advanced gyroscope and a three omni-wheel system to the vehicle. The gyroscope and gyro-sensor measure and detect three-dimensional angles on the vehicle in order to maintain perfect balance between the body and the tire. In addition, the precision control of the three omni-wheel system gives drivers the freedom to drive how they want at any speed.
“By continuing our highly successful The Next Driving Lab campaign, Hankook Tire hopes to shed new light on our long-term commitment to leading the driving industry into the future by developing innovative, boundary-pushing technology.” said Mr. Seung Hwa Suh, Vice Chairman & CEO of Hankook Tire. He added, “Hankook Tire will continue to display our authentic challenge spirit as well as our innovative brand values by releasing a variety of new and experimental products for our customers.”
The Next Driving Lab campaign was launched in 2013 with the unveiling of Hankook Tire’s Digital Creative Car on the streets of Seoul, Korea. The campaign’s next venture was last year’s viral Mind Reading Tire showpiece, which featured a tire capable of responding to brainwave commands.
